Small business owners react to COVID-19 crisis

Homeless people, destitute in the current coronavirus crisis, have now got a roof over the heads thanks to the swift action by BNIWoking member Clarity Home Solutions which provides property management solutions for landlords and tenants.

Anne Woodward, owner of the HMO (House of Multiple Occupation) business, which predominantly covers Central and Southern England, told group members at Tuesday #Zoom meeting, was able to create the opportunity at a house in Plymouth.

She explains: “The owners of the six-bedroom house wanted to explore using the rooms for essential workers or vulnerable people, particularly during the current crisis.”

The local council passed the details of the property on to PATH (Plymouth Access to Housing). With the agreement of the one remaining tenant, whom relocated locally, the charity was delighted that it not only meant housing for vulnerable people in the current crisis but the owners have agreed to a five-year lease.

“All parties are thrilled with the outcome and this will provide some supported living for six homeless people to help them get back on their feet,” says Anne. “Over the five years this house could support potentially 30 to 60 people, or more if the contract is extended beyond that.”
